The draft Contaminated Land Strategy objectives are to:
Protect human health and the wider environment from unacceptable land contamination risks
Act proportionately in managing land contamination risks using the most appropriate route, in accordance with Council policy
Only accept land contamination assessments and remedial work which meet the required quality and technical standards
Drive for sustainability in our actions in dealing with land contamination
Prepare a written strategy of inspection to identify sites affected by land contamination and address those sites where significant risks are most likely to be present
Minimise unnecessary burdens on stakeholders and the taxpayer
Prevent further contamination of land
Communicate with our residents in an open and transparent way to provide them with information and an understanding of the Council’s work on land contamination.
