The Maid by Nita Prose
'Plump pillows — polish doorknobs — sweep away secrets — clean up body.'
On a day like any other, Molly Gray is cleaning her way through the rooms of the Regency Grand Hotel but on entering suite 401 she finds a guest dead in his bed.
Working as a maid is the perfect job for Molly — she loves to clean and likes dusting way too much. Molly's work has earned her an A+ exceptional productivity score and a certificate of excellence.
Molly the mutant, the formality freak, awkward, standoffish, meticulous, a neat freak, a weirdo — her colleagues are less than complimentary. A creature of habit, Molly likes rules and order, she struggles with social proprietary, understanding meaning and nuances and has a tendency to take things literally. She is also attracted to frogs that do not turn into princes. However there is more to Molly than people give her credit for.
Who killed Mr Black? As a mystery begins to unfold, Molly finds herself at the heart of it. Fired from her job and framed for murder, things do not look good but if anyone can clean up the mess, it’s the maid.
A whodunnit and a little bit of escapism, this book actually tackles some weighty issues but with such a light touch, you barely notice. A gentle read, with a big heart and a hugely likeable heroine.
