The Council wants to improve how people can access transport to attend day services, by:
enabling access to independent travel training, to support people to travel independently and with confidence on public transport
ensuring those who are assessed as needing help to travel to day service activities can access the required support with transport.
We have provided an example to help explain what this idea would mean to people using day services. This example is not based on a real person, it is only provided to help illustrate this idea.
What happens currently for people who use our services
Emma has been assessed as needing help to travel to day service activities and is provided with a taxi/minibus or community transport.
What this would look like in the future for people who use our services
The Council will continue to provide transport to Emma, but she can choose to complete independent travel training, giving her the skills and confidence to use public transport and make her own travel arrangements to access day service activities. Emma would receive a personal budget to support her to travel independently. Emma will be able to access information that shows the different transport options that are available, to allow her to attend her chosen day service activities.
