The council should be doing its utmost best to encourage supermarkets to roof in their large carpark with solar panels

I am a frequent visitor to France and have noted a trend their to erect solar panel roofs over the car parks of certain supermarkets and in particular 2 LeClerc supermarkets in Biars sur Dordogne and St Cere both in the Lot. These serve 3 purposes 1. They generate a substantial amount of power - probably sufficient to meet close to the majority of the shops own needs if not the full amount 2. They provide shad form the sun so your car is not an oven when you return to it 3. They provide shelter form the rain whilst you are loading shopping into your car. Presumably planning consent wold be required for this sort of installation and you as a council should at the very least make it clear that such applications will be viewed favourably. I can provide 2 or 3 photos showing such an installation - available on request.
