The Local Plan Conversation engagement exercise has now closed. Thank you to everyone who took part. A copy of the feedback report, comments on existing Local Plan policies and suggestions of sites and locations for new development and land that is important to protect, are now available via the link at the top of the page. There were a number of comments that did not relate to the Local Plan but to issues dealt with by other Council departments. Where possible all these other comments have been passed to the relevant services. The findings of this engagement were discussed by the Council's Cabinet on 22 April 2022. Information about the meeting is available via the link at the top of the page. Your feedback supported this discussion at Cabinet, where it was agreed that the Council commits to an update of the Local Plan (Part One) and commences initial work, including evidence gathering in advance of this, and establishes a cross-party Member Working Group. A report setting out the scope and timetable will be approved at a future Cabinet meeting.

Make P&R free out charge a nominal sum per car and make city centre parking more expensive.

Make it unattractive for those from outside the outer ring road to drive inside it and for those inside the ring road to drive the short journey to town. This will make it easier for those who NEED to drive (blue badge holders) to get where they need to be.

    Enforce speed limits.

Lower speeds equals lower pollution and fewer accidents with life-changing consequences. It’s time for zero tolerance.

Get developers to do what is set out in their plans.

Developers too often take short cuts or make changes that Council do not have resources to challenge. Make housing projects less car-centric and let’s have pavements back instead of parking lots.

Incentivise walking/cycling short journeys to improve health & climate.

It’s too easy to jump in the car to get places. Incentivise active travel and get people investing in their health before they are too clapped out.

Embed support for sustainable transport in all aspects of planning strategy

Ensure new planning applications/developments really provides sustainable transport options and enhances existing arrangements. Don't allow developers to claim public transport enables a site to be sustainable when service level won't support this mode of travel for work. Ensure there is a comprehensive long-term strategy/map for cycleways that is taken into account as new developments come forward instead of piece-meal and/or retrospective cycleway installation.
