The Local Plan Conversation engagement exercise has now closed. Thank you to everyone who took part. A copy of the feedback report, comments on existing Local Plan policies and suggestions of sites and locations for new development and land that is important to protect, are now available via the link at the top of the page. There were a number of comments that did not relate to the Local Plan but to issues dealt with by other Council departments. Where possible all these other comments have been passed to the relevant services. The findings of this engagement were discussed by the Council's Cabinet on 22 April 2022. Information about the meeting is available via the link at the top of the page. Your feedback supported this discussion at Cabinet, where it was agreed that the Council commits to an update of the Local Plan (Part One) and commences initial work, including evidence gathering in advance of this, and establishes a cross-party Member Working Group. A report setting out the scope and timetable will be approved at a future Cabinet meeting.

    Zero tolerance of idling vehicles.

Starting with CWAC’s own fleet of vehicles and contractors too, apply zero tolerance to drivers sitting in idling vehicles as it is wholly unnecessary. Start outside schools, hospitals, railway stations. Hand out a few hundred meaningful fines and word will surely get out.

Improve access to air quality data from monitoring stations.

See my idea under Climate Change......... The apparent lack of progress on pollution control even in the Air Quality Action Zones is stark. Inability to even access data to see what’s happening is ludicrous. They have already solved this in Wales - what’s stopping us learning from our neighbours?

    Stop green washing everything.

Buying an electric car is a kind of virtue signalling and solves little. Industry is also applying lashings of greenwash to every product. Let’s get some honest appraisal of how expensive the hydrogen economy is really going to be and that might focus attention on actually saving energy rather than just changing the nature of it.

Support Consultation workshops on insulation, heat pumps, underfloor heating, water-saving tips and invite approved suppliers

Hold workshops where we can get unbiased advice on practical ways of reducing energy use and access to approved suppliers as this industry already has its share of rogue traders i suspect.

Capitalise on the learning from the Clockwise scheme.

The Clockwise scheme has definitely generated some problems but must have generated a lot of data too. Capitalise on the learning to understand how we can go forward rather than just back to where we were. Closing off the road past Grosvenor Park and the amphitheatre is surely worth looking at and create a shared space for leisure.
