Foreword from Cllr Karen Shore, Deputy Leader of Cheshire West and Chester Council, and Cabinet Member for Environment, Highways and Transport

We know that for people and businesses across west Cheshire, transport is about much more than just getting from A to B. It underpins our economy, connects our communities and shapes the places in which we live and work.

It connects our people to jobs, learning, health, retail and leisure opportunities. It connects businesses to each other and their employees and allows the efficient movement of goods to keep our economy going. Fundamentally, our transport system is at the centre of how we live our lives.

But our current system is not what it could be...

Too many people are left behind due to a lack of accessible and inclusive transport options, while our businesses struggle to access the talent they need to thrive.

Too many of our neighbourhoods are dominated by traffic, generating noise, pollution

and road danger which damage our heath and the health of our children.

We also know that transport is increasingly one of the leading contributors to the climate emergency, a fundamental threat to our way of life and future prosperity.

There is much to be done. The scale and pace of change needed to tackle these challenges is serious, and we need to tackle them head on.

We want to create a transport system which supports good health, provides us all with opportunities to work, learn and succeed where we live, and which contributes to restoring pride in our town centres and neighbourhoods.

Our new Local Transport Plan will be at the heart of achieving this, and this engagement marks the start of developing on this Plan.

The proposals we set out are certainly not ‘business as usual’.

We are proposing a new era for our transport network, with a fresh approach focused on the real outcomes which people and businesses want and need, helping us to develop the clean, inclusive transport system of the future.

There is no better time to talk about the future of transport.

We want to open up a conversation with those who live, work, travel and visit our borough, and we need your views to help shape the next stage of developing these plans. Thank you for taking time to engage in this conversation.
