Current Restriction

Drivers travelling along Grosvenor Street are prohibited from turning right into Cuppin Street. This restriction operates at all times and is already enforceable by the Police.

Why is this location being considered?

The restriction was originally introduced to help manage traffic movements within Chester city centre. The location has been identified through observations by Cheshire Police and Council Highways Officers, regarding driver compliance with the restriction. Vehicles making the prohibited turn can create conflicts with other traffic, reduce junction efficiency and undermine the purpose of the existing traffic management measures.

The site formed part of the Council's original assessment programme and was shortlisted due to concerns regarding compliance and the potential benefits of improved enforcement. At that time, additional signage and lining improvements were introduced first to see whether these would improve compliance. Further monitoring indicates that prohibited turns continue to be made and, as the restriction remains difficult to enforce using traditional policing methods, it has been identified as a suitable candidate for Moving Traffic Enforcement.
