Current Restriction
Drivers travelling southbound from the St Martin's Way flyover are prohibited from making a U-turn at the junction with Hunter Street. This restriction operates at all times and is already enforceable by the Police.
Why is this location being considered?
The restriction was introduced to support the safe and efficient operation of this busy section of Chester's highway network. The location has been identified through observations by Cheshire Police and Council Highways Officers regarding driver compliance with the restriction. Vehicles making prohibited U-turn manoeuvres can create conflicts with other traffic, reduce junction efficiency and undermine the purpose of the existing traffic management measures. The site was identified through the Council's review of potential Moving Traffic Enforcement locations in 2022 due to concerns regarding compliance and the potential benefits of improved enforcement but was not prioritised at the time for the first phase
