Current Restriction

Drivers exiting Castle Drive are prohibited from turning right onto Grosvenor Road. This restriction operates Monday to Saturday between 4:30pm and 6:30pm and is already enforceable by the Police.

Why is this location being considered?

The restriction was introduced to help manage traffic congestion on Grosvenor Road during the evening peak period. During restricted hours, drivers are required to exit Castle Drive by turning left, helping to reduce delays and maintain the efficient flow of traffic on one of Chester's busiest routes. The location has been identified through observations by Cheshire Police and Council Highways Officers regarding driver compliance with the restriction. Vehicles making the prohibited right turn can create delays for traffic travelling along Grosvenor Road, reduce junction efficiency and undermine the purpose of the existing traffic management measures.

Expected Benefits

The No Right Turn restriction from Castle Drive onto Grosvenor Road was introduced to reduce congestion and maintain traffic flow on this key route during the evening peak period. Camera enforcement would improve compliance with the restriction, reduce the number of prohibited turns and support smoother, more predictable traffic movements. This would help reduce delays caused by turning vehicles, support more reliable journey times and ensure that the existing traffic management measures operate as intended. Improved compliance would also contribute to the efficient operation of the surrounding road network during one of the busiest periods of the day.
