Have your say on proposals to introduce Moving Traffic Enforcement at additional locations across Cheshire West and Chester

Cheshire West and Chester Council is seeking your views on proposals to introduce Moving Traffic Enforcement (MTE) at additional locations across the borough. Eleven potential sites have been identified, from which four with the strongest case for enforcement would initially be selected.

Since camera enforcement was introduced at four locations in 2024, overall non-compliance with traffic restrictions at these locations has reduced by just over two thirds. The Council has now reviewed other sites where evidence shows drivers are not always following existing restrictions, such as banned turns, weight limits and yellow box junctions. The proposal is to use approved camera technology to improve compliance and help support safer, more efficient journeys.

If the proposals are taken forward, the Council plans to introduce camera enforcement at four locations initially, to work within available resources. Further locations may be considered for future implementation, subject to consultation findings and available resources.

We want to hear from residents, businesses, visitors, motorists, cyclists, public transport users – anyone who may be affected by the proposals. Your feedback will help the Council understand local views and any potential impacts before a decision is made on whether to proceed with camera enforcement at the proposed locations.

What happens next?

Following the closure of the consultation, responses will be analysed and a consultation report prepared. The Parking Management Team will also prepare a summary report with recommendations before a decision on any additional sites is made by directors in consultation with relevant cabinet members.

Consideration will be given to the consultation responses and other factors including road safety, traffic congestion, and compliance levels as well as technical feasibility and equality analyses. The consultation findings and recommendations are expected to be considered during Autumn 2026, with a final decision anticipated shortly after.

A summary of the consultation findings and the reasons for the decision will be published on the Council's consultation webpage following the decision.
