April 2022 - The Winsford Town Centre conversation has now closed

Thank you to everyone who continued the conversation with us about transforming Winsford Town Centre. The survey feedback you have given is really important. Findings from both consultation stages can be found here:

A planning application for Phase 1 of the redevelopment was approved by the Council's Planning Committee on 5 April. You can view the planning application on our online portal here (application number 21/05058/FUL) and view a recording of the Planning Committee meeting here (please use Google Chrome where possible).

April 2023 – Winsford Town Centre Update

Following increases in construction materials and labour costs and reduced demand for food and beverage units, the Council has had to re-evaluate the feasibility and sustainability of the original plans for Winsford Town Centre. To find out more please click here.

We have ambitious plans to transform Winsford Town Centre. By 2024, it will look different to how it does now.

Your feedback so far

We ran a consultation earlier this summer about Transforming Winsford Town Centre, to find out exactly what you want to see and do in a new look town centre, and make sure we would be designing a place which meets your needs.

Thanks to the hundreds of residents who took part. We have carefully read all your feedback. The findings of the consultation are available here and you can find out how your feedback has shaped plans here.

Many of you said you wanted to see the library retained and improved, more places to eat and socialise, better quality parking facilities, a new cultural offer, an improved market and better indoor and outdoor space for pop-up entertainment events.

How we are using what you have told us

We have taken on board your comments and updated our initial plans to reflect your views. As a result, the revised phase one plans include: more hospitality retail units, a better parking environment with gardens and more tree planting, easier links with the rest of the town via improved walking and cycling routes; and a new public square where outdoor civic and entertainment events can be held.

You can view the updated plans here and an accessible version is also available here.

Have your say on the latest plans

These latest plans focus on the first phase of the development, located to the north west of the Town Centre. Avison Young is currently in the process of preparing a full planning application for these plans, on behalf of Cheshire West and Chester Council. The planning application will be submitted this Autumn, but before this, we are inviting you to share your views on the final plans.

You have until Sunday 10 October to share your views. You can complete a feedback form here or select from any of the other ways to take part.

There will be a further opportunity to comment on the final proposals through Cheshire West and Chester Council’s planning process once the planning applications have been submitted.
