We have a strong relationship with a range of organisations and communities outside the Council to deliver public services, develop our neighbourhoods and support our economy. These partners are crucial to joining up services for local people and making our collective resources go further. New proposals that relate to this theme will save £0.3 million over the next two years and include the following.
Proposals
(4.1) Working with the community to support people in need: We have an amazing community that support our residents to live fulfilling and independent lives. We want to build on this approach and help people to access this support, reducing the growth in people requiring formal care arranged by the Council. We are piloting this approach in Ellesmere Port and want to see if this can be extended across the borough. We also want to maximise the use of adaptations and equipment in people’s homes to help them maintain their independence. This could save £340,000 over the next two years.
Further ideas for the future:
To meet future challenges the following are being considered, but work is at an early stage.
(4.2) Our relationship with Cheshire Waste Recycling: We have a successful Council-owned company that collects waste from households across the borough. We are exploring options for greater links with the company for other services. This could reduce duplication and reduce costs without impacting on service quality.
(4.3) Further joint working with the NHS: We want to further strengthen our links with the local NHS and to identify if we can remove duplication and work more smartly in partnership. This will be supported by new arrangements we have put in place to enable joint decision-making on health and care.
(4.4) The relationship with schools: We would like to review the services we provide for schools and ensure they meet needs and are funded appropriately. We would work closely with the schools to ensure any changes support their needs.
