Enhancing Pedestrianisation in Chester City Centre
Please complete this survey to share your views on the following proposals being considered to enhance several pedestrian access routes within Chester City Centre:
- Bridge Street and Watergate Street (including Weaver Street loading bay) - We are considering making the temporary traffic access restrictions put in place during the pandemic a permanent change, meaning Watergate Street (from the lights at the junction with Nicholas Street) and Bridge Street (down to the rising bollards on Bridge Street) would remain closed to through traffic from 10.30am until 8.00pm, seven days a week, enabling the ongoing pedestrianisation of the area for the benefit of shoppers, hospitality and businesses alike.
- Northgate Street, Eastgate Street and St. Werburgh Street (also affecting St. John Street) - We are considering making the temporary traffic access restrictions put in place during the pandemic a permanent change, meaning that Northgate Street (from the Northgate Street/St. Werburgh Street junction) and Eastgate Street would remain closed from 10.30am until 8.00pm seven days a week. Currently traffic access is also restricted on Northgate Street (from the barrier opposite the Town Hall to the junction with St Werburgh Street) and St. Werburgh Street between 8:00am and 6:00pm Monday to Saturday. We are considering extending these access restrictions so that the same restrictions also apply on a Sunday.
- Frodsham Street and Foregate Street - Currently in this area traffic access is restricted on Frodsham Street (from the junction with Victoria Place, with access allowed to supermarket car parks), along Foregate Street, to the junction with Love Street, between 8:00am and 6:00pm Monday to Saturday. We are considering extending these access restrictions so that the same restrictions also apply on a Sunday.
