Above and Beyond

Hattie works in the Qwest contact centre. The team there take the COVID-19 calls from people in Cheshire and signpost the vulnerable to support hubs across the Borough.

She had a call from a resident who could not read or write so doesn’t know if he’s received an NHS letter. (He has letters but doesn’t open them.) He reported he hasn’t had food for 5 days – he has been told the Food banks, via CAB will contact him but they haven’t. He says he has no family or friends. He reports he also has no money but does have underlying health issues: He was not on the NHS list that we use to contact people.

The customer was also diabetic – just gone onto insulin and the hospital are contacting him once a week but he says his readings will be all over the place.

As he was desperate for help. Hattie sent through an urgent food parcel request but as he is in dire need she has used her own money to buy some food and will be dropping it off after her shift. Using Social Distancing of course.

She has also registered him as clinically vulnerable at gov.uk in case he wasn’t on the shielding list..

This is an amazing story for how people are really giving that extra support.
