Share your views on the draft Design Code for Cheshire West and Chester
The Council would like to hear your views on its draft Design Code, which is a clear set of rules and guidance that new development across the borough should follow. The purpose of the Code is to ensure that future development is well designed, fits with the local character of the area, and creates attractive, sustainable places for people to live, work and visit.
Over the past two years we have engaged with residents, community groups and stakeholders who have helped shape the draft Design Code.
The Design Code is split into five sections:
Nature
Nature is about creating and connecting parks, trees, gardens, waterways and other natural spaces across the borough.
Movement
Movement is about how people and goods travel to, from and around a place.
Public Space
Neighbourhoods require public spaces: they are the focal point of a community, where people can socialise, play and access nature.
Built form
The shape, size and arrangement of buildings contribute to the character of an area and how people feel about a place.
Identity
The identity or character of a place comes from the way its buildings, streets, spaces, landscape and infrastructure work together, and how people experience them.
This consultation is open to everyone. Your feedback will help shape the final Design Code and ensure new development reflects the needs and character of our borough.

Read our consultation summary here or download as a PDF here
The closing date for responses is Tuesday 24 November 2026.
What happens next
Following the consultation, we will review and analyse all the feedback received. We will then publish a consultation findings report here, summarising the key messages and explaining how they have helped shape the Design Code. The final Design code, together with the consultation findings report, will then be considered by Cabinet before a decision is made on whether to adopt it.
