“By 2040, the transport system will help Cheshire West and Chester become a borough of thriving, caring and greener communities. We will all benefit from a system that is sustainable, affordable, adaptable, and accessible to everyone, facilitating excellent quality of life, attractive neighbourhoods, thriving businesses, and inclusive prosperity for the urban and rural communities which make our borough unique.”

Between Huntington and Eaton Road with an onward connection to the business park, this will also make it far quicker to reach the city centre from the south-east direction. It should also be illuminated.

Minimum of 3m wide shared-use pavements alongside main roads with frequent crossing points to reduce the severance impact between villages for cyclists.
0 comment0Paul Chester5 months agoDon't restrict ideas to your own bubble. Lead the change, don't rely on others "will" to change. That is a poor excuse for future failure!
Look at how other cities have achieved change. Ask Qs on how they achieved it & mistakes made. Dont pre-empt or blame failure of buy in by others on stating success is on the willingness of others to change. DRIVE THE CHANGE: Drop inner city speed limits. Open up the park and rides, the bus lanes, the cycle lanes. Only install (visitor) public vehicle charging points in the park & ride facilities. Make it "park, recharge and ride!" Hike inner city parking prices. Only this will reduce city traffic, make roads safer for active travellers, recover road space for active travellers and reduce pollution. You need to flip travel priority and hierarchy on its head, you are too soft, you pamper to drivers hissy fits, suspending bus/cycle lanes and 20mph limits! Traffic light crossings are like begging buttons these days! Make the pedestrian priority, then the cyclist/wheeler, then the bus, then taxi, then the private car last. Loading/unloading can be via a remote hub that uses last mile distribution via e-trikes etc. People are naturally lazy and will always go for the easy/quick option. Make the bus/walking/wheeling the easy option! A council that labels outcomes as may possibly happen, isn't an innovative council. You are not all experts in all this. Get experts involved to ensure success!

The low level of ambition for CW&C is very disappointing. Chester in particular should be emulating Cambridge, with a proper network of protected cycle tracks, and reduced space for motor vehicles. There is no reason cities in England can’t be like cities in the Netherlands, which are simply nicer places to be and to live in.
