The Housing Strategy consultation has now closed.
Thank you to everyone who took part. All the feedback received will be analysed and we will share a summary of the findings here in January 2025.
The findings will be discussed by the Council's Places Overview and Scrutiny Committee in January 2025 and at Cabinet in March 2025, to help inform their decisions on the new Housing Strategy.
Information about these meetings, as it becomes available, can be found on the Council's website:
We are developing a new Housing Strategy that sets a vision for the Council and its partners as we work to improve housing for all residents across the borough. Following our engagement earlier in the year we would like to hear your views on our draft strategy.
The Council's last Housing Strategy ran from 2014 - 2020 and our new strategy will take us forward running from 2025 - 2035.
How we developed the new strategy
We developed our new Housing Strategy through a series of workshops and a public engagement that ended in April 2024. This engagement helped us to understand which priorities for housing were most important to people. We used the feedback from this engagement to help us develop the draft strategy, which we are now consulting on.
You can find out more about the engagement on the strategy here.
Key priorities
The strategy seeks to set out a collaborative approach to ensuring there is a range of good quality, affordable housing and support that meets the needs of residents in Cheshire West and Chester over the next ten years.
There are three priorities in the draft strategy:
Support that enables residents to access the right home and live well.
Homes that are fit for now and ready for the future.
Affordable homes of all tenures across the borough.
Within the draft strategy for each priority there is further detail setting out what we want to achieve and how we will make a difference.
You can read the draft strategy here. This information is also available in web-accessible format here.
You can share your views on the draft strategy by:
Attending a drop-in session to talk to the Housing Team and give your views
What happens next
Your views are really important and what you tell us will be used to help shape the Council's new Housing Strategy. Once the consultation is closed your feedback will be used to refine the draft strategy which will then be shared with the Council's Cabinet in March 2025. You can stay up to date with the development of the new Housing Strategy here.
This consultation is open for responses until Tuesday 5th November
