Cheshire West and Chester Council is developing a new Climate Emergency Response Plan, to update the current Plan which was first drafted in 2021.
This revised plan outlines the key areas of work which will help to address climate change across the borough. Some of the proposed actions would be delivered directly either by the Council or partners, and the Council would support and encourage the delivery of others, which fall outside of its direct control.
We are keen to hear your views on the draft Climate Emergency Response Plan so that we can develop an inclusive and innovative plan that will help the borough to achieve net zero by 2045. This is a long-term strategy for the next five years (2025-2030).
We want to hear the views of our residents, businesses, partners and other key stakeholders on:
The key priorities and proposed areas for action
How the Council could work with residents, partners and businesses to tackle climate change.
Please share your ideas and views on the draft Climate Emergency Response Plan by XX January 2025.
Why do we need a Climate Emergency Response Plan?
The Council declared a Climate Emergency in 2019, recognising the urgent threat that climate change poses to our way of life. The need to tackle climate change has only grown more urgent since then, with both increasing temperatures, increased frequency of extreme weather events such as flooding, and a range of other impacts. It is therefore essential that the Council continues to take a proactive approach to reducing both its own organisational emissions to net zero by 2030, and support the borough to achieve net zero by 2045.
The Climate Emergency Response Plan is an opportunity for the Council, residents, businesses and other local organisations to work together to help address climate change in the borough.
