Our ambition is to support the borough to become net zero by 2045, and to be a net zero Council by 2030. The proposed outcomes set out in the plan are intended to set out a pathway for the Council to follow, with the resources available to us. It will encourage action by both us, partners and residents, although we recognise that in some sectors, greater funding, resource and policy changes will be needed from central Government to achieve net zero by 2045.
Areas for action
We have identified six sectors which, based on the best available evidence and data, drive the majority of greenhouse gas emissions within west Cheshire. We believe that by focusing our action on reducing emissions in these sectors, we will be doing our part to tackle climate change, within our available funding, resources and powers. These sectors are:
Energy
Industry and commercial
Transport
Housing
Land use and adaptation
Waste and the circular economy
