The Climate Emergency facing our world is a very real issue, but there is plenty we can do to take action to help protect our planet.

Cheshire West and Chester Council declared a Climate Emergency in the borough in 2019 and put forward its Climate Emergency Response plan, which aims to help the borough become carbon neutral by 2045.

This is a space to share ideas, stories and tips about what you are doing locally to reduce your carbon emissions and impact on the environment. Now's the time to react and play your part to make our borough carbon neutral.

What are you doing to tackle the Climate Emergency?

Residents, community groups, schools and businesses across the borough are busy playing their part to protect our local environment and reduce their impact on the planet by reducing their carbon emissions.

Lots of people taking action together can make a big impact and we want to hear all about the things you are doing. It could be a short tip, a blog or vlog on a certain topic, a pledge to say what you hope to achieve or about an event you’ve organised.

By sharing your story, you could inspire others across the borough to take action today and help us achieve our ambition of being a carbon neutral borough.

    Libraries are, by their nature, more environmentally friendly than many other units in town centres. A typical purchased book is read around once while a library book can be read by over fifty people. Libraries do not give out single-use plastic and are working towards introducing more environmentally friendly library cards. Every library has an annual environmental audit to Free access to computers in all libraries mean there is less need to purchase personal IT equipment.

    Cheshire West Libraries have teamed up with Read Now Write Now to offer free online creative writing classes for children aged 7 to 11, including live Zoom sessions over the Half Term.     Cheshire West and Chester Libraries are joining with public libraries around the country in promoting books which suggest ways everyone can respond to the Climate Emergency. Our librarians, along with Libraries Connected, have produced suggested reading lists, with displays of these titles and others going on display in all our libraries.

    A free Climate Change Teachers Toolkit has been launched to support teachers with classroom-based learning related to the COP26 conference.

    The toolkit launched earlier his month to support teachers with issues relating to the COP 26 conference, a global summit on how countries across the world will tackle climate change.

    The website will link teachers to a range of resources that will support learning about climate change and specifically the four targets being discussed at the COP26 conference.     Cheshire West Voluntary Action (CWVA) is running a Green Pledges campaign, in partnership with Chester Sustainability Forum, providing an opportunity for individuals and organisations to make personal pledges and support actions to tackle the Climate Emergency called by Cheshire West and Chester Council.

    Vivo Care Choices’ allotments in the heart of the community across Cheshire West and Chester allow people using services to take part in the things they love and grow as individuals at the same time.
