Climate emergency response plan consultation
Climate change is an ongoing challenge for communities worldwide, including here in west Cheshire. Lots of action has already been taken locally to address our changing climate, with the borough’s emissions dropping by 20% from 2021 to 2022 and the Council reducing its carbon emissions by 75% since 2015. However, even more needs to be done to help us cut our carbon emissions further and to protect nature and boost local biodiversity.
Following an engagement exercise earlier this year, we’re redesigning the Council’s current Climate Emergency Response Plan which will be used as a guide to support the borough to achieve its target to reach net zero by 2045.
During the plan’s engagement period we’ve worked with communities to understand the opportunities and challenges we face as we work towards creating a greener, healthier and more resilient borough. We’ve taken on board your views and have developed a draft plan that sets out priorities for the borough and key actions the Council, partners and our communities can take under six key theme areas:
- Business and industry
- Transport
- Housing
- Energy
- Land use, adaptation and repair
- Waste, recycling and the circular economy
